Last Friday it was near perfect weather for an outdoor event in Aspen. Aspen International Fashion Week was set at the ice rink near the bottom of the steps to the gondola. Friday was day two of the event and featured après ski trends, eco-friendly products and accessories. Snowlink was the sponsor of Friday’s three shows. The first two shows were more about form and function. The third show was more fashion focused and trendy.
The day kicked off with a show of colorful base layers by Polarmax, a leader in the industry. You have to keep warm coming down the mountain so why not add a pop of colors.
The second show featured accessories from Quiksilver, Roxy, K2 Skis, Pakems and more; and sustainable gear from The North Face, HALTI Burton and Homeschool Snowboarding. Sleek high-tech goggles, helmets and footwear paraded down the runway. Some of the gear was made from recycled materials. I stood next to Julie Adams of Pakem who was so excited to be sharing her shoes and about all the positive feed-back she received.
Some of the trends shown in the third show were pastel colors seen everywhere this season and red and black tartan. Gorski Furs closed out the show with an array of fur-lined outerwear and colorful furs. The jewel-toned jackets were right in trend.
